Wildflower blooming!
I planted some Alaska wildflower seeds in some tire planters I made and some of the flowers finally bloomed the other day. Check out the photos!
Greenhouse Remodel
So I'm building a shed in order to store some stuff outside in order
to have room for my new roommate who's coming to live with
me...tomorrow! I knew the shed would not be done by then so I decided
I needed to figure something else out but I was freaking out because
move in day was coming on so fast. I then remembered that I have tons
of unused space in the greenhouse - that would be a great place to
store all those things that are okay with a little humidity! But
there's no floor in there so I had to build one. I thought about it
for a while and decided that a bunch of pallets would be tall enough
to keep things off the ground, which tends to flood and freeze in the
winter. I got lucky with some nice folks over at Merrill Field who
happened to advertise on Craigslist that they had a bunch of pallets
to get rid of. With a little creative jenga-ing, I was able to get
them to fit and now I have a great floor and much better storage
layout. Now to fill it...

The new Squash Field!
Nunaka Estates Chicken Retirement Home
So I got a chicken. My friend down the street got some new chickens, and they ganged up on poor Twitch (nee Nascar). I felt bad for the poor girl (who had a stroke at some point last
winter and now just walks around with one good eye and walks in circles a
lot) so I agreed to take her in to leave out her last days...or weeks...or months. She may yet lay again so I'm going to keep her alive. Yes it's silly, why would one want to have a chicken retirement home? See below for some photos of Chloe (nee Twitch).

Greenhouse shelves and failure
So I put together some shelves in the greenhouse the other day. I was slightly concerned about committing to destroying some wood for the shelves so I figured out a way to make them without cutting or drilling into wood. So this is what I made, a bunch of boards supported by the greenhouse walls and substructure.

Spring is getting here...slowly
Well, this weekend I've got some work ahead of me. First is trying to get the snow away from my raised beds so they can maybe thaw and get ready for plantings a little sooner. See the photos below. Next, I've got to start some of my seeds so I can salvage some of the short growing season.

Some Greenhouse Photos
So here are a few photos of the greenhouse we erected in September 2012. It used to belong to my friend Greg but he was looking to get rid of it and due to being full of piss and vinegar about my pretty successful garden last summer, I thought this would be a great addition to my farm. So here are a few photos, just to test the photo uploading capabilities of this blog.
